Gabriela Beatriz Sabatini was a tennis sensation of Argentina. She was one of the best tennis players that Argentina has ever produced. She used to be a superstar during her playing days. She was born in 1970 in the capital city of Argentina i.e. Buenos Aires. She won two Grand Slam titles (One singles title and one doubles title). She also played brilliantly in the 1988 Olympics which were held in Canada. She made Argentina proud by winning a silver medal in the Olympics of 1988 at a young age of 18 years.
Gabriela was highly talented right from the very childhood. She won the Orange Bowl tournament when she was just 13 years of age. No player has ever won the Orange Bowl tournament at such a young age. Only at the age of 15 years, she went to the semifinals of the French Open. However, she was defeated in the semifinal match by Chris Evert. At the age of 18 years, in 1988, she went to the finals of US open. She had to face one of the greatest tennis players of all times, Steffi Graf, in the final match. Graf’s versatile game was too much to handle for the young Gabriela and Graf defeated her by 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Gabriela again reached the final of the US open in 1990. Again, she had to go through the same opponent, Steffi Graf, who defeated her in the final of 1988. But, Gabriela didn’t miss the opportunity this time around. She stunned Steffi Graf by defeating her in the straight sets 6-2, 7-6. However, she made a very good pair with Steffi Graf in the doubles. She won the doubles title of Wimbledon Championship in 1988 by playing with Steffi Graf. She announced her retirement from the professional tennis in 1996, when she was only 26 years old.
